“Emerald City” delves into the future of Teesside, exploring the pivotal role it is expected to play in Britain’s journey towards achieving Net Zero. However, a decade marred by corruption, delays, and industrial decline has left Teesside grappling with uncertainty. Once renowned as Ironopolis (iron city), a bastion of industrial prowess, the area now faces doubts about its future.
By utilising scrap materials in the artwork, 'Emerald City' aims to shed light on Teesside’s deprived state and offer a sense of hope for its regeneration. This approach highlights the urgency for revitalising the area, emphasising the importance of Net Zero not only on a national basis, but also for the future of Teesside.
